“Over the past few decades, the interest in Pilates Reformer has grown significantly.”
Tanya Joy, Pilates Instructor, and Ocean Beach Woman's Club Member
She started teaching Pilates Mat in 2002 and shortly after started teaching on the Reformer exclusively. “The Reformer is great because it can be both supportive for those with weaker muscles looking to gain strength while minimizing the risk of injury and also is great for weight-bearing exercise due to the spring-loaded resistance.”, Tanya says.
There are many different exercises that can be done on the reformer while lying down, sitting, standing, prone, and even jumping! Pilates Reformer is often used with rehabilitation and physical therapy. It is a great type of exercise for any fitness level with adjustment of springs and exercise modifications.
Some of the Many Benefits
Tanya Joy has been teaching Pilates since 2002. She has taught a variety of mat classes, yoga-lates, Pilates reformer, and some chair and cadilac work. She worked with mentor Barbara Devault, traveled to work with instructors from world-renowned Pilates hubs in Colorado, New York, California, and Hawaii to experience the variety in teaching styles.
After developing her own style with experience from her teachers she became certified in Pilates with AMFPT in 2003. In 2012 Tanya expanded her health & fitness repertoire with a 200 hour yoga certification. She loves to get continuing education through mentors, trade shows, and classes. She has been continuously teaching since 2002 when her passion became her career and still loves it just as much as ever.

The reformer uses spring loaded resistance which has been found to be helpful in building bone density. Pilates is also great for core conditioning, which creates a toned mid-section, has been found to help with back pain, improve posture and digestion.
Whatever your fitness level, age, or exercise background, Tanya Joy will work with you to get you to where you want to be.
As you work out and begin to feel better physically with Pilates, she believes you will also begin to feel better mentally. You'll stand taller, feel energized, move with grace and most importantly, feel happiness and joy.
